Set Your Preferred Name and Photo for Messages.

Check your list of conversations in the Messages App on your iPhone, go ahead, we’ll wait. Do you have lots of people with generic icons next to their names or numbers? It looks like a little boring grey bubble…with only their initials. There’s a chance that you look like that to other people as well but a new feature in iOS 13 lets you share your preferred name and avatar picture with other iMessage users (blue-bubble friends). If you’re interested in choosing a personal photo (and name) to represent you, it’s really easy!

How’s how:

In Messages, first tap the ••• button (top right) and then select “Edit Name and Photo”. From there, it is almost self-explanatory. You can update your name and then tap “Edit” (under your photo bubble) to select a new, fun photo. Make sure “Name and Photo Sharing” is enabled before tapping “Done” to save. From now on, for any iMessage conversations, you’ll see a little banner at the top that asks if you want to share your name and photo. Do so and your recipient will get a prompt to replace whatever generic information they were seeing for you. The same is true for you as a recipient of other’s text messages. And if, as a recipient, you don’t want to accept your contact’s suggested/personally preferred new photo, tap the X button at the right of the prompt. That’s it! Have fun!
